Chicken Dinner

Join us on Thursday November 10 2022 at the Ephrata Road and Gun Club for a chicken dinner to support the Kilts Farm project.

Dinner includes a half chicken, baked potato, baked beans, coleslaw, a roll, and desert.

Dinner will be served to eat in or take out from 4pm to 7pm, or until sold out.

The price for dinner is $14

The Ephrata Rod and Gun Club is located at 372 NY RTE 67, Fort Plain, 13339.

Blacksmithing workshop with Stephen Mankowski, master blacksmith

This is a two-day workshop on November 12 and 13, 2022. The cost for the workshop is $275

Stephen Mankowski started blacksmithing in the summer of 1981 with Jeff Jubenville at the Genesee Country Museum in Mumford, NY, and worked with Paul Spaulding at the Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown, NY, from 1986 to 1988. Stephen earned his blacksmith journeyman papers at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation under Peter Ross in 1994. He presently works in his own shop, Pine Tree Forge LLC and works part time as master blacksmith for Jamestown Rediscovery..

He has demonstrated blacksmithing around the country and enjoys sharing his traditional methods with others.

Introduction to basket weaving with Colleen Mosenthin of Weave and Wobble

September 25, 2022 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Colleen is a master basket weaver and does basketry workshops in the area. Your choice of making a Berry Picking Tote or a Catch-all Tote. Everything you need will be supplied except your wobble. Lunch is provided.

The class will be held at the Kilts Farm, 172 Kilts Rd, Fort Plain, NY 13339

Cost is $75 for the workshop. Attendees are encouraged to supplement this with a $25 membership at the Kilts Farm. For those joining on September 25, a private group tour will be provided after the workshop. Class size is limited to 12 participants.

Baskets are made for a variety of purposes, including food gathering and storage, furnishings, garments and ceremonial uses. Basketry can transmit artistic knowledge and cultural traditions. Workshop attendees can see the basket collection at the Kilts Farm as well as create their own work of beauty.

Two day Covlerlet class with Rabbit Goody

April 30 and May 1, 2022

This two day class is a general approach to coverlet weaving in the Mohawk Valley from post revolution to 1840.

We will examine coverlets in Skip Barshied’s collection and from the collection Rabbit Goody. We will be discussing who was weaving coverlets and blankets in the Mohawk Valley and how they compared to the weaving going on in other areas of the northeast. We will also look at hand textile tools common during this time.
