Join us at Kilts Farm for two days on October 18 and 19, 2025. This course is designed to integrate the tool production of the blacksmith and tool use in the process of hearth cooking.
Instructors: Steve Mankowski and Gwen Miner
Participants spend part of each day at the forge producing implements critical for cooking in the late 1700 and early 1800s. Learn the art and science of hearth cooking by roasting, broiling, boiling & baking food using recipes and techniques from the first half of the 19th century. The class includes instruction on cooking tools and techniques, bake oven skills, and period recipes. Students gain knowledge they can apply to their own hearths with period cooking implements they produce themselves. All ingredients are supplied & participants get to dine on the food they cook. Students will expand their forging and fire skills as well as cooking and recipe knowledge.
