Instructor: Janet Rigby
18th century style hand sewing is so much more than joining two pieces of fabric with a needle and thread. As a fine craft, sewing created styles and decorations that helped define the era. In this class students will learn basic stitches and then practice the techniques used to make the decorations iconic in the era.
Students will construct a sampler for themselves of over 10 different examples of construction from practical to frivolous. We will also discuss fabric types and their uses. A handout will be supplied to reinforce the lessons.
Students are encouraged to bring examples of 18th and 19th century clothing and furnishings for show and study.
