Blacksmithing workshop with Stephen Mankowski, master blacksmith

Day 1
9:30 - coffee , Welcome, Introduction to Kilts Farm , Judy St Leger and Steve Mankowski
10:00 - Ironwork and the importance of the blacksmith as a trade, at the Kilts Farm and the Mohawk Valley in the 18th and 19th centuries.
11:00 break
11:15 - Iron Making Fundamentals. Supplying iron stock to a hungry and rapid growing agricultural community of Stone Arabia.
12:00 - Lunch
1:15 - Some Early Blacksmiths of the Stone Arabia community (Caspar Koch, Joseph England)
Study of the blacksmiths tools and ironwork made with them in the Kilts Farm collection.
3:15 - Break (if needed)
3:30 - resume examination and study of ironwork from Kilts Farm Collection.
4:30 - End of the day
Day 2
9:30 - Coffee and any questions
10:00 - Demonstration on making some simple house hardware (nails, rivets, hinges and latches)
12:00 - Lunch
1:15 - Demonstration on Welding and making a farm implement (haven’t decided on an item yet)
2:00 - Break
2:15 - Some hands on Blacksmithing for participants willing to give it a try.
5:00 - End of the day
Workshop will be limited to 6 participants, bring your own forging hammer if interested in some hands-on activity. Materials for hands-on will be supplied . The cost for this 2 day program/workshop is $275 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.
