In this one day workshop you will learn the basic steps of maintaining your home’s original wood windows. We will learn how to replace broken glass, how to prepare sash (scraping, sanding), how to putty, and how to paint. We will also discuss how to make windows functional and energy efficient.
Kurt Riegel is the owner of Riegel Restoration, a company that specializes in the restoration of historic windows. He holds a BS in Urban and Regional Planning from the University at Albany and a MS in Architecture/Historic Preservation from the University at Buffalo. He has spent his life learning, studying and practicing many aspects of restoration, historic preservation, and architectural history. Outside of his professional career, he is the Museum Director for a small, local museum, and sits on two other boards for two small historical societies. He has been visiting Eastfield Village since 2011 learning from the various instructors and participants. When it comes to the preservation of our built environment, he considers himself to be a purist and traditionalist, always striving to learn from the past to plan for our future. His hobbies include working on his 18th century home (originally a tavern), Unadilla, NY researching various trades, hiking, collecting antiques, and visiting historic sites.
