This one day workshop/ demonstration is designed to help Living History and Museum blacksmiths, in the understanding of early period methods of both problem solving and recreating historical ironwork. Participants will spend the morning studying and drawing some of the ironwork from the Kilts Farm collection. The afternoon will consist of demonstrating various methods of forging and finishing examples of period pieces in the blacksmith shop.

Steve Mankowski has been doing traditional blacksmithing professionally for 45 years. He is presently the owner of Pine Tree Forge of Williamsburg Va. and works part time with blacksmith Shel Browder at Historic Jamestown Rediscovery. Steve had previously worked at Colonial Williamsburg where he earned his journeyman certificate, The Farmers Museum at Cooperstown NY and Genesee Country Museum in Mumford NY. He has researched and made fine reproduction hardware for home and museum restorations all over the country.
