Participants in this class will prepare a meal over the Open Hearth in the Kilts Farm Summer Kitchen using receipts from 19th century cookbooks. Participants will boil, bake, fry, roast and grill using fire and learning how to manage the fire to do the various methods of cooking. Along the way participants will learn about what folks ate and where the various foodstuffs came from and how they were preserved without refrigeration. At the conclusion, participants of both the Open Hearth and the Cookstove Workshops will sit down together in the Kilts Farmhouse to share their experiences and to savor the delicious food they have prepared.
This workshop is done in conjunction with the "Let's Cook a meal over the Open Hearth" workshop.
